STEM Teacher – Open Position

The primary function of this position is to implement effective instructional practices and strategies to develop students’ science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills. This position provides classroom instruction in robotics, technology, agriculture sciences, egames, and engineering utilizing experiments, investigations, and explorations of STEM concepts.

10 Month Position (7 hrs./day – 32.5 hrs./week)

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education with an emphasis Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.
  • PA Special Education Certification required.
  • PA Technology Education K-12 Certification a plus.

Experience

  • 2+ Years of experience working in an education setting.
  • 2+ years of experience working with students who have special learning needs and an Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s) in place.
  • 2+ years of experience working with students who have moderate to severe social and emotional difficulties.

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to implement a holistic instruction and assessment system based on state academic standards.
  • Proficiency in the use of instructional technology to enhance student learning. Coding experience required.
  • Knowledge of lab equipment, manufacturing tools, lab safety, and best practices for hazardous materials
  • Experience with Robotics
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of Behavioral Management strategies
  • Must be willing to drive students utilizing Pathway vehicles if needed.

    Compliance Requirements

    • Must comply with Act 168 and submit a completed Sexual Misconduct Form.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory PA criminal background check, Child Abuse & FBI clearances and pass a drug test, as well as a TB Test.
    • Must be able and willing to drive and have a valid PA driver’s license.

    Physical Requirements

    Must be able to handle the physical requirements of position which will require work both on campus and off-campus. This position includes extensive walking stairs, climbing, standing, pulling, and lifting. Ability to work with children who are both mentally and physically disabled. This position requires work both indoors and outdoors working in various weather climates.

     

    Professional Responsibilities

    • Develop and administer STEM curriculum consistent with the Pathway School’s goals and objectives.
    • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction and student learning.
    • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
    • Organize, coach, and attend Robotics Team Competitions.
    • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress and modify instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs.
    • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as the Pathway School requires.
    • Provide input to the STEM Coordinator for the purpose of providing information on student progress toward IEP goals.
    • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality on school and students’ information, progress, and records.
    • Participate in all in-service training. May be asked to assist in the preparation and administration of in-service training.
