Whoa-Down 2009

August 2009

Dear Friends,

Fun-E-Farm is proud to be hosting the first-ever WHOA-DOWN on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. This event will benefit students at The Pathway School who are participating in our 'Whoa-Ward Bound Equine Assisted Learning Program'. It is our pleasure to invite you to join us in helping to make a difference in the lives of these extraordinary children.

Please join us for some good ol’ fashioned family fun including picnic food, carnival games and horse-themed activities for all ages. The purpose of this event is to have lots of fun while raising funds to support Whoa-Ward Bound. You will have an opportunity to meet the children and families who are benefiting from this program. If you are unable to attend, please consider sending a contribution in any amount to support this effective learning program. We are also seeking donations for raffle/auction and prizes.

Whoa-Ward Bound provides special needs students with an opportunity to learn through interactions with gaited Mountain Horses, a gentle breed trained for pleasure trail riding. The therapeutic qualities of horses enhance learning and help to develop essential life skills. Whoa-Ward Bound is helping children between the ages of 9 and 21 for whom mainstream public and private school education is insufficient to meet their needs. The physical, social, cognitive and educational benefits of equine assisted learning and therapeutic riding programs have been extensively documented by national organizations. Special needs children often struggle to communicate, but when you pair them with horses, they are able to accomplish a great deal with increased confidence and self-esteem. Whoa-Ward Bound is an innovative program integrating academics, vocational exploration, life skills development, social skills and animal care in an alternative learning environment for students with a variety of learning challenges.

Fun-E-Farm is proud to partner with The Pathway School to create this program. The Pathway School is a unique institution known for its multi-sensory approach to instruction, utilizing a combination of clinical, behavioral and educational specialists to meet individual learning and behavior needs. A nonprofit, approved private school founded in 1961, Pathway was the first school in the Philadelphia area designed exclusively for the learning disabled child and the first in the nation to unify the disciplines of psychology, psychiatry, medicine, social work, and education. For the last forty-six years, Pathway has nurtured and challenged many wonderful students with complex learning and emotional issues.
