Service Learning
The Pathway School utilizes service learning as a vehicle through which students can build both self-esteem and social awareness, as well as explore possible career interests. Classrooms and living units utilize a variety of programs both on and off the school’s campus in order to provide each individual with an opportunity within their interest and ability level. Students engage in activities such as toy/canned good collections, making hand-crafted items as gifts, participating in community fund-raisers such as walk-a-thons, and volunteering at local community programs, such as child care centers, senior citizen centers, homeless shelters, food banks, hospitals, parks and animal shelters. Through these programs, students are able to see themselves as having talents to share that are valued and gain perspective about themselves and the issues with which they struggle.
Recreation Services
Students participate in planned and spontaneous leisure/recreation activities designed to teach skills, support interests, and afford opportunities to connect with members of the community. Activities include organized sports and clubs as well as special community events such as organized sporting events, camping trips, dances, and walk-a-thons. Students also utilize Pathway’s gymnasium and recreation room.
Students can pursue individual interests in areas such as karate, fitness training, swimming and community enrichment classes as part of their leisure skill independence training.
Athletics
The Athletic Program offers our students who are 13 – 21 years old the opportunity to compete in interscholastic athletic events. Our activities include soccer, basketball, flag football, and softball. We compete against schools within Montgomery and Chester County who provide services for special needs students.
