Pathway services students at the elementary, middle, and secondary school levels. At the elementary and middle school levels, emphasis is placed on the development of the core skills of reading, writing, and mathematics. Computer assisted instruction is utilized throughout the elementary and middle school programs.

In reading, while most students benefit from a modified Orton Gillingham approach, other strategies are utilized as well, depending on the needs of the individual student. In mathematics, students are taught in small groups with an emphasis on hands-on activities. Cooperative learning groups are used in which students work together to solve math problems. Writing is emphasized throughout the day.

The secondary academic program offers adapted core high school classes in the disciplines of English, mathematics, science, social studies, computer science, physical education and the fine arts. Students can earn high school credits for these courses as well as for career education courses taken. The program is departmentalized and individualized to meet the varying learning needs of the students. Computer assisted instruction is utilized and there is at least one computer in each classroom. Students can obtain a Pennsylvania high school diploma based on credits earned or from meeting specific requirements established by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. Other accommodations, as dictated by the needs of the individual student, may be made.

In addition to teaching academic skills to our students, a heavy emphasis is placed on the development of social skills. Students learn how to interact appropriately with peers and adults as well as how to develop and maintain friendships.

Extracurricular activities include student council, participation in interscholastic sports leagues for soccer, basketball and softball, a student newspaper and an annual senior prom and class trip. Each year, one of the graduating students is chosen as "Best of the Class" and appears on a Philadelphia television show on ABC, which honors the best of the class of graduating students from many schools in the region. Most of the students from The Pathway School go on to full or part-time jobs in their community. Some continue their education in a technical program, junior or four-year college, or other post-secondary programs.
