Educational Services

The purpose of the Pathway educational program is to provide students with a supportive academic environment to enhance learning and social skills development. The ultimate goal is to move each student toward his/her potential goal for self sufficiency as an adult. Based on ability and potential, student Individual Education Programs are developed to emphasize an academic content emphasis or one in which the emphasis is on acquiring basic practical life skills. All students are provided with vocational/job skill development experiences.

The educational program is based on a diagnostic/prescriptive, student centered approach. Each student’s I.E.P. includes learning goals, specially designed instruction and related services such as clinical support, reading therapy, speech/language therapy, developmental movement therapy and occupational therapy. The Pathway School is committed to utilizing a trans-disciplinary team approach to design, implement and monitor student progress toward individual goals. Parents are vital members of the team. For residential students, the trans-disciplinary team also includes a representative of the residential department.

Classroom current options exist in three unique programs: The Practical Academics Program, Lower School Program and the Secondary School Program with opportunities for self contained or departmentalized classes.

At this time the youngest day student is eleven years of age and the youngest residential student is thirteen. We hope to expand these chronological age constraints through future enrollments.

Class sizes at The Pathway School vary depending upon student need and range in size from a 6:1:1 to a 12:1:1 support model.  In addition, some students require a 1:1 paraprofessional.
