Assignment Completion Homework Completion Initiating a Task
  • Find out exact expectations or instructions for task

  • Assemble necessary materials

  • Carefully begin working

  • Focus attention on your work

  • Continue working until your task is completed or criteria are met

  • Check your work

  • Write down the assignment to be completed

  • Complete all homework that is assigned by the teacher or staff member

  • Hand in the assignment by the scheduled due date

  • Make sure you have all materials necessary to complete the task

  • If not, get the teachers attention and ask if you may get the necessary items

  • If yes, begin the task immediately (within five seconds)

Remaining On-Task (Independent Work) Asking for Help Answering Questions

  • Remain in assigned area/seat

  • Remain quiet

  • Keep hands and feet to yourself

  • Work actively on assignment until finished or asked to stop

  • If you need help, get the teacher’s attention appropriately

  • Look at the person

  • Ask if the person has time to help you (now or later)

  • Clearly describe the problem or what kind of help you need

  • Thank the person for the help

  • Raise your hand

  • Wait quietly to be acknowledged

  • Tell the person what you believe is the correct answer

  • Listen quietly to the response

  • Get the person’s attention without interrupting

  • Wait quietly until acknowledged

  • Ask a question about the topic being discussed

  • Listen quietly to the person’s answer

  • Tell the person who answered the question “thank you”

  • Read the instructions again

  • Ask yourself “Did I follow all the directions appropriately?”

  • Check to make sure all tasks are completed

  • Check the overall appearance of your work (handwriting, capitalization, stray marks on paper, etc)

  • Make all necessary corrections.

  • Look at the person

  • Use a quiet voice tone

  • Say “May I please have some feedback on…”

  • Thank the person for the feedback

  • Appropriately request to join in the activity

  • Ask what the role you can play

  • Do your job thoroughly and completely

  • Cooperate with others by listening, accepting feedback, sharing materials and taking turns

  • Praise other person's performance and share credit for the outcome.

  • Sit at a desk or other writing surface

  • Sit up straight

  • Brace the paper with your free hand (not your writing hand)

  • Write slowly and carefully

  • Check your work.

  • Correct any letters or words that are difficult to read
