Pathway At A Glance...

Mission
The mission of The Pathway School is to build academic, social and life skills in students with special needs to promote their success and independence after Pathway.

Who We Serve
The Pathway School is a non-profit approved private school providing educational and clinical services to children with special needs. Serving 150 students ages 11-21, Pathway enrolls young people with various diagnosis such as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (mostly Autistic Spectrum Disorder), Tourette’s Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, anxiety and mood disorders, neurological impairment, and other neuropsychiatric disorders.

History
Founded in 1961, The Pathway School was the first school in the Philadelphia area designed exclusively for the learning disabled child and one of the first in the nation to combine the disciplines of psychology, psychiatry, medicine, residential, social work and educational instruction.

Campus
The Pathway School is situated on a 15-acre suburban setting located west of Philadelphia near historic Valley Forge National Park.  The campus includes, six educational buildings, an occupational therapy center, a speech and language arts center, an administration building, an admissions center, a greenhouse, a health services suite, and recreational areas.

Staff
Because many of the young people we serve require intensive one-to-one support, The Pathway School employs nearly 200 staff including teachers, teacher assistants, and a clinical staff of nurses, a psychiatrist, psychologists, speech and occupational therapists, and social workers.

Programming
The Pathway School offers kindergarten through 12th grade curriculum designed to cultivate the student’s individual strengths. As in most public schools, Pathway’s elementary classes are self-contained with a single instructor, while middle and high school students change classes and have a variety of instructors. Specialized programs include basic life skills instruction for students who function at lower cognitive levels and a unique career education program that prepares students for transition into the working world or higher education.
